TV’s Grand Designs Australia features Bricklayer’s Creative Brick Home

As a bricklayer, Greg Saunders has spent most of his adult life building houses for other people. Now after dreaming about it for more than twenty years, he’s doing it for himself with the help of his good friends Tristan and John, using the materials he’s most passionate about – bricks.

Greg and Emma’s, South Melbourne, three level home was recently featured on Australia’s Grand Design in Series 4, Episode 2, ‘South Melbourne Brick House’.  It obviously had a huge impact as the morning after the show went to air, my phone rang off the hook with bricklayers asking me if I saw it.  I realised then, the interest Greg had sparked in our trade.

Vic Apprentices Perform Well at Golden Trowel

The National 2013 CMAA Golden Trowel event saw a strong performance from Victorian finalists, apprentices Mason Harvey and Matthew Baxter, with support from Holmesglen trainer Don Scott.  The Golden Trowel competition was held in Coffs Harbour and involved teams from 12 TAFE’s across Australia.

Rate Your Training and Improve Productivity


Rate Your Training is an online tool for employers to rate and compare the performance of Registered Training Organisations which includes TAFE’s and private RTO’s in areas such as Building & Construction – Bricklaying, plus other areas of study.

Rate Your Training is a helpful website when deciding where an apprentice should do his training, as you can contribute your experience and view the experience of others.

It helps an employer choose a training provider (TAFE or other Registered Training Organisation) to best suit his business needs and has been created by the Department of Education & Early Childhood Development (DEECD) in response to employer demands for improved access to information about the quality of training in the market.
