Lester Tibbles has won a bronze medal in bricklaying at the recent International WorldSkills Competition in London, UK.
This is the world’s largest and most prestigious trade skills competition.
The 22 year old from Crookwell NSW, competed against 27 of the best bricklayers in the world at the International WorldSkills Competition, and dug deep to win the bronze in a 22 hour competition.
ABBTF has recently reduced the brick and block levy by 25% as from 1 July 2011.
The Board’s decision was in recognition the lean times the industry is currently facing around the country.
The new levy is now $1.50 per thousand on clay bricks and 7.5 cents per square metre in the wall for concrete masonry. The change means that the Brickstart subsidy support for employers of new apprentices is now $4,000. Employers with apprentices starting prior to 30 June 2011 will continue to receive the previous subsidy of $6,000 over three years.
The support is in addition to incentives from the Federal Government and from the Tasmanian Building & Construction Industry Training Board (TBCITB).
