TAFE SA Raises the Bar on Training Innovation

Bricklaying and other trades will benefit from state-of-the-art training facilities recently opened at Tonsley Park.  The system is paperless and trainers and students can check the progress of their teaching and learning online from any location.  The hi-tech facility includes touch screen technology and interactive white boards.

Eric Parletta, Bricklaying Lecturer commented that the centre will ‘change and improve the way bricklayer training is conducted’. Continue reading

Caruso Meets Challenge on Design using New Austral Bricks

Paul Caruso-austral-capThe construction of Errington Special Education Centre, designed by prominent SA Architects Walter Brooke & Associates, demonstrates the expert bricklaying skills that the trade is known for in South Australia.

Paul Caruso of Caruso Constructions met the challenge on this project, laying 70,000 Austral Symmetry Silver ‘Colossus’ bricks in stack bond.  The bricks were the length of two bricks (470mm) and required precise set-out to eliminate cut bricks, except for the feature bonded corners.  The project was the first to embrace the new product from Austral.
