NSW Bricklaying Skill Shortage as Dwelling Starts Rise 68 Percent

Story 2

The ABBTF team is working hard to address the shortage of bricklayers in New South Wales.  The shortage has come quickly with dwelling commencements increasing from 30,750 in 2011/12 to 51,620 in 2014/15, a lift of 68%.  This increase includes a 44% increase in housing.

ABBTF is sourcing many candidates from schools and job seekers to be assessed and prepared for a start as a new apprentice.  In the past ten weeks, more than 70 new apprentice registrations have been received for ABBTF subsidy support of $3,000 for employers.  This is in addition to Federal Government support of $4,000.  We expect apprentice numbers to improve further as our marketing and recruiting attracts more good candidates.
