Coffs Harbour TAFE Hosts National Golden Trowel

The 2013 CMAA Golden Trowel Competition was held earlier this month in Coffs Harbour.  Apprentice bricklayer teams from seven NSW TAFE’s along with rivals from Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia vied for the prestigious Golden Trowel Award.

Twelve teams, each comprising a Stage 2 and Stage 3 apprentice and supported by their trainer, built a complex concrete masonry project over two days at the brick/blocklaying training facility at Coffs Harbour TAFE.

See the Best Apprentices on Show around the State in WorldSkills

The best bricklaying apprentices in NSW will be competing at a number of regional WorldSkills competitions over the coming months.  These events are held every two years and employers, parents and the public are encouraged to attend to see high quality bricklaying skills from an impressive group of current apprentices.

ABBTF has seen an improvement in the skills and quality of young people entering the trade over recent years.  It is good to know that the future of the trade is in good hands with young skilled craftsmen joining the workforce.  WorldSkills apprentices are great examples of the new generation of bricklayers.
